Hotel Baltschug Kempinski J +7
(095) 230-6500
www.kempinskimoscow.com
Street Address: Ulitsa Balchug 1 - Moscow, Russia
Location: Very Good. Nearest Metro: Staff Speaks English? Yes. Would I Stay Here? Yes. * Stunningly Expensive... starting at 525 "units" plus 18% sales tax * The Kempinski has excellent views of the Kremlin and the back of Saint Basil's Cathedral. It is certainly a very classy hotel and has a certain air of perfection to it - housekeeping-wise. The facility is spotless and seems recently renovated. Security is very good. You need a key card to use their classy elevators. Rooms have carpeted floors and are very comfortable. The 8th floor actually has a library for guests. They have a fitness center that is quite small, and a nice pool and jacuzzi area. There are separate saunas for men and women. You may use a tanning bed there if you want, or get a massage. . While the hotel does offer some excellent views of the back of the Kremlin, I feel its location is a bit isolated - being on the other side of the river. I enjoyed the Kempinski very much, but I think there are better values out there. The Hyatt is one of those better values, in my opinion... although the Kempinski has the better view.
Baza Moryakov x Foreigners not accepted. +7 (095) 210-2961 They don't accept foreigners.
Hotel Bega K +7 (095) 945-5213 www.bega-hotel.ru Street Address: 11, Begovaya Alleya - Moscow, Russia
Location: Excellent if you like horse races. Nearest Metro: Begovaya Staff Speaks English? No. Would I Stay Here? Yes. * Free Horse Races! * Here is an interesting place to stay. It is right next to the Hippodrome! This is a horse racing track. Two sides of the hotel have great views of the track. You can enjoy the races from your balcony. On my visit I saw harness racing in action. First, as usual, the front desk said all the rooms were occupied and that they could not show me the rooms. But then they had a change of heart. The hotel has 84 rooms. Renovation is on-going. Right now they are getting brand new elevators. I saw brand new corridors. The bathrooms I saw were okay. The hotel has a very nice, very comfortable brand new restaurant. The lobby is old, but I think in time this entire hotel will be fixed up. There is a cash machine in the lobby. The hotel is 2 trolley bus stops from the metro. For no extra charge you get to watch the horse races from your room (from the rooms with the right view). The rooms are normal, but they are adequate and I think the views could be fun.
Outside is a busy 2 lane roadway. I found it difficult at times to cross it. Traffic on a nearby highway was awful. And it was a Saturday! So traffic must be really bad on the weekdays.
