Welcome to the School of Medicine
The Medical School has set five objectives with specific focus within these objectives:
The first objective is increased focus with specific reference to the following:
• Research development.
• New multidisciplinary training programmes with focus on the preservation of these programmes.
• Marketing that includes recruitment and the establishment of an alumni fund.
• Marketing of the School’s image.
• Employment equity.
• Effective and efficient utilisation of human resources and systems, including capacity building.
The second objective set within the School of Medicine is:
• The establishment of a satisfactory climate with actions aimed at improved communication.
• Collegial interaction.
• Recognition of achievements, e.g. career development and new structures.
The third objective is collaboration and alliances by means of the following actions:
• Forming of appropriate partnerships as part of the total academic platform.
• Establishment of ‘Friends of the School of Medicine’.
• Removing obstacles.
• Service delivery to the community.
• Advancement of cooperation between the various Schools.
The fourth objective is enhanced innovation by means of the following actions:
• Creation of innovative learning opportunities and open learning.
• Proactive identification of needs, including physical facilities, research and training by means of innovative planning.
• Encouragement of support initiatives, including research, training and public and private partnerships.
The final objective is to:
• Improve evaluation, including actions that measure progress, and measuring tools for research, personnel management and marketing
• Revise the different structures and systems.
It is important for the Executive Management of the School of Medicine to ensure that there is a greater focus on people, and to bring about more job satisfaction for these people. Over the next months it will also be an overarching objective to create a motivating climate in the School of Medicine.
The Division Programme Management & CPD, Medical Illustrations, as well as the Clinical Skills Unit is part of the School of Medicine.
