Kilsheelan, Clonmel

Gurteen le Poer.

The Mansion above stands on private ground and one must have the land owners permission to enter.

Kilsheelan or Síolán's Church is situated on the main Waterford Road about five miles from Clonmel.

The picturesque demesne of Gurteen le Poer is situated on the outskirts of the village. It is on the south bank of the river Suir. It is a neo-gothic building which took thirty years to build. There is a fine dolmen in the grounds.

In the village itself lie the remains of a Norman Motte. A grotto has been set into it.

Some of the markers on the graves date from the 17th century but there are older headstones there. On the right are the remains of a romanesque arch which is rich in carvings but is suffering from the effects of weathering.

Kilsheelan is an National Tidy Towns award winner. It is a very pleasant stop for the weary traveller, with its picnic areas and extensive walks by the river Suir.
