For the life of me, I don't understand why this one is the most popular destination. Mac zealots plotting against the hated Windas monster? Windows worshippers, if any? (haven't met one, personally) ... Will not go there out of principle.

Envious or curious people wanting to see how one of the world's richest men live? It doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with MS loving or hating.

Also, it may be a factor of it's own momentum. Once it's at the top of the list, many who see it there will want to know what's so fascinating, why it has so many hits, and check it out themselves, adding even more to the hits.

The same map is on top of the Most Views list over at Google Globetrotting as well, so whatever the reason, it doesn't just apply to this site.

Or may be every MS and its subsidiaries' employee feels obliged to pay a visit to the boss's residence ... if only a virtual one :)

I only hope Bill isn't looking at this website - his house seems to have the stamp "Google" written all over it!

I think it is because he is the richest man in the world that it is so popular. I took the Argosy Cruise from Lake Union out onto Lake Washington and we sat out in front of his house, His house is the one with the Brown 3-legged L-shap dock and is quite a large place , the picture I took shows the dock and his imported sandy beach, and up the hill more of his house. The trees really block most of the house so you don't really see much anyways.

The thing that gets me is that this is listed in "Seattle" when the house is in Medina, WA, which is across the lake from Seattle, and a different town, entirely.

The reason you can't see much from the water shot from the Argosy cruise is that there isn't a huge ostentatious home above the ground - much of the home is set into the hill, specifically to keep the house from seeming huge and ruining the neighborhood. What you can see from the cruise, you can also see from the 520 floating Bridge nearby on the lake.

Regrettably, many of Bill and Melinda's neighbors have failed to practice the same restraint when designing their own waterfront homes.

This stretch of homes on the water in Medina is one of the most expensive single streets in America. No fewer than 11 billionaire families (multiple billionaire members) live on Evergreen Point Way.

I chose to list it as Seattle because most people know Medina as being in Seattle- the metropolis, not the city itself. For locals, certainly things could be listed as Medina, Totem Lake, Kent, Issaquah, but that is effectively Seattle to 99% of the world.

I thought that Bill Gates lived on top of a mountain or a large hill
