Updated: January 9th, 2017

Jet skis and fishing boats have been replaced by ice huts. The winter fishing season has begun with around 10inches of ice on the lake. Various fishermen have reported catching perch and bass, and one individual said he got into some walleye within the last week. Fishermen are protective of their spots, because the only location I have been told that anyone is catching fish is “in the lake.”

Dress warmly, bring something hot to drink, and enjoy a day on the ice.

About Hawk Springs State Park

Hawk Springs reservoir boasts a blue heron rookery, including birds such as the blue-winged and green-winged teal, gadwall, pintail, wood duck, and great horned owl. Fishermen have long known that fishing is good at Hawk Springs. Game fish include walleye, largemouth bass and channel catfish. Winter ice fishing is also good at the park. There are 24 camping units, comfort stations, and accommodations for trailers. A boat ramp and parking area are available.

Game and fish questions can be addressed to the local game wardens: Torrington, 307-532-2433.
