From: birddogThe USAF used to build these as outlying fields during and just after WW2. They were meant to serve as auxilliary fields and emergency sites. If you ever go to airfileds-freeman.com, you'll see these in many locactions, particularly in the southwest...lots in Neveda and Arizona.
