It is located at the mouth of the Anadyr_River. Situated at {{coor dm|64|44|N|177|30|E|}}, Anadyr is the easternmost town in Russia. It was founded on August_3, 1889 as '''Novo-Mariinsk''', and was renamed to its present name in on August_5, 1923. The town status was granted on January_12, 1965.
