MASCHIO ANGIOINO - NAPLES, ITALY

Maschio Angioino (Castel Nuovo)

When Charles I of Anjou had the castle built, he could not had foreseen that seven centuries later it would still serve as the political hub of the city.

The municipal council of Naples meets in the huge Sala dei Baroni where Ferdinand I of Aragon brutally suppressed the ringleaders of the Baron's revolt in 1486.

The triumphal Arch

It is one of the most remarkable monuments of the southern Renaissance period.

The arch was erected in 1454 to celebrate the triumphal entry of Alphonso of Aragon into Naples, after he conquered and dethroned Rene' of Anjou. It emulated similar monuments of Roman triumphs..

You'll leave with fond memories that will last a life time.
