Botanic Garden
Speaking of orchids is like to discuss on the own origin of the Botanic Institute, with the installation of the São Paulo Orchid Collection", in 1928, in the then State farm, today the State Park of Ipiranga Fountains. Ten years later, due to the great acceptance by the public, the visitation area received the name of Botanic Garden. The Botanic Institute counts on a Library with about 6.400 books, 300 thesis and 700 periodical publications, several works of the past century and an incomparable botanic estate in the State of São Paulo.
In João Barbosa Rodrigues Botanic Museum, of a great educative value, many samples of plants of Brazilian flora can be found, a collection of products drawn from plants, fibers, oils, woods, seeds and also pictures and photos representing the several ecological system of the State. In the cultural architectonic set of the Botanic Garden it may be pointed out in addition to the Museum, the Lineu's Garden, inspired on the Uppsala Botanic Garden, in Sweden, the historical stoves, the historical gate dated 1894 and the benchmark of Ipiranga book nascents. With an area of 1.6 million m2, this is one of the most visited park of São Paulo. It is the result of one of the first great projects of the brazilian architect Oscar Neimeyer and the landscapist Burle Marx, Ibirapuera exceeds the concept of a mere park. There, it is installed the building of "Bienal" and theData Processing Company of São Paulo City (PRODAM), in addition to Planetarium,Obelisco, Monumento das Bandeiras, The Folklore Museum and the Museum of Aeronautics. The park is intersected by paved streets and gathers four lakes interchanged by channels, cooper tracks, multi-sports courts, dog training, snack bars, playgrounds and areas of infantile recreation. There is still a large arboretum and a Japanese pavillion, with a replic of the Imperial palace of Kyoto. The Jaraguá Peak stands in a 45.000.000 m2 forest reserve. It is the highest spot of the city, with an altitude of 1.135m, where from one discloses a panoramic view of São Paulo. Tree Farm (Horto Florestal)
With 1,7 million m2, the Tree Farm is one of the biggest green space of the city and still one of the few spaces that count on an excellent fresh water fountainhead. Its two lakes and area for picnics are some of its main attractions. Also, it is worth while to visit "Museu Florestal Otávio Vecchi", the symbolic mark of the tropic of Capricorn and the image of São João Gualberto, a relic in Carrara marble that has been granted to the Tree Farm by Italian monks. It counts on a stage for cultural events with open air bleachers.
