Here is a bit more info. It is on final to St. Paul Holman Airport (STP) runway 12, about 8 miles ESE.

Plane taking off[/url] from Holman on runway 30L. I suspect that these images are from different times or they would be nearly on a head-on collision course.

A few things:

Based on the heading of the plane, it looks to me like it could be on a downwind leg for STP runway 31. It would have to alter course (unless there's a strong crosswind) in order to be on final for STP.

The picture you posted of the 30L takeoff is actually MSP (International).

I'm guessing the plane is actually inbound for MSP (7 miles directly south of it), though it seems odd because none of the MSP runways have right-hand traffic. (i.e. This plane needs to turn right at some point to land at MSP.) But I'm not an air traffic controller, so there may be something I've missed.

This looks like a Northwest Airlines paint job to me. Take a look at the MSP terminals. MSP is one of the two big hubs for Northwest (Detroit DTW is the other). There are several planes like that on the ground. At the eastern corner of the airport there is a little island with several puddle-jumpers parked around it, and the inbound plane looks to me like one of those. So that's one of the big reasons I'm guessing it's bound for MSP.

There is another plane (very similar but blue) about 2 blocks south and 1 block east.

Nice catch -- that one really blends in with the background if you're not actively looking for it.

The blue paint job might be U.S. Airways or Midwest Express, my guess being the latter based on the size of the plane and where it is. Of course, it could be something totally otherwise.

That one looks like it's heading away after taking off from MSP. Either the pictures were taken at different times, or the altitudes are skewed and we can't really see them. Either that or these planes are dangerously close to each other (1/4 mile)! :-)
